After BASC Canada Battery Mission in March 2023, Japan and Canada have signed Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on September 21, 2023. Japan intends to facilitate the entry of Japanese companies into Canada and aims to establish sustainable and reliable battery supply chains between Japan and Canada.

The MOU was signed by Mr. Nishimura, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry; Mr. Champagne, Canadian Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry; Ms. Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development; Mr. Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources; and Mr. Yamanouchi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Canada.

This was the first time in Japan's history for it to sign a memorandum of cooperation concerning battery supply chains, and Canada is the first country in the world with which Japan has signed such a memorandum of cooperation.

In the presence of the ministers of Japan and Canada, some private companies signed the MOU, who are Panasonic Energy and prime planet energy & solutions from BASC members.
